"Success Principles" - Introduction
SUCCESS PRINCIPLES
Introduction
Every
successful achievement in life has a price tag. In essence, the price comes
before the prize. Anyone who is not willing to pay the price is not worthy of
the prize. Someone once said, “Many people know where they are going but the
price looks too great for them to pay”. On every rise to greatness, there
is a price! Such is based on applying the right principles
required to succeed.
Just
as winning a battle is not all about sophisticated
weapons, numbers, or experience but also the need to strategize to win, success
is not just based on how intelligent or smart you are, the right strategies
coupled with strategic and intentional planning need to be implemented to
succeed. Though intelligence could outrank strength, sometimes, intelligence is
not enough.
Do you remember the story of David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17:1-51)? Goliath had sophisticated weapons which he used over the years. He had the experience of the battlefield on his side and could probably predict what would happen to an opponent. He also had the build of a warlord who could terrify any enemy. But he lacked an essential part of warfare, embracing the right strategies to defeat your enemy, which is “know your enemy”. He never had an idea of who David was and his trainer. Probably if he did, he would have retreated and re-strategized, or worst-case scenario offered a retreat and a surrender.
Sun
Tzu1, a Chinese military general, strategist, philosopher, and
writer, who is the author of “The Art of War”, an influential work of military
strategy that has affected military thinking, once said “If you know the enemy
and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you
know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer
a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every
battle”. In essence, success is enhanced on the platform of the right
strategies, not just strength or intelligence.
Also,
in every individual, there is the innate power to succeed. Nobody is born a
failure. It is a matter of decision fostered by the choice we make. In essence,
your decision determines your destiny as far as success is concerned. To harness
the inherent power in us to succeed, we would be considering some practical principles which cover every sphere of life such as academics, career, business, finances etc. Take time to carefully read through and let every point sink into the
deepest part of your soul and spirit, to lubricate every friction of failure
with success, and calm every stormy experience with great performance.
You
will succeed!
